Materials 101: Engineered Wood

Engineered wood has become a popular alternative due to its quality, design, and more affordable compared with solid wood. Although it comes in many varieties, not all are created equal. That is why it is important to note that when selecting wood pieces for your home, you should consider other factors and not only decide on appearance alone. With more than 20 years of experience in the field along with extensive travel around the world, EDIA has found partners who share the same vision to provide global design and durable pieces, from contemporary looks to ecologically sustainable and toxic-free furniture, but yet still bring the best value without sacrificing on quality to our customers.

Engineered vs. Solid Wood

Now considered the main material used in the furniture industry, engineered wood or compressed wood has become the best option for its quality, ease of work, and importantly, its lower cost. Modern furniture designs mostly require a uniform finish and specific cuts the engineered wood can achieve. The lamination or finish of compressed wood was produced uniformly hence pieces look exactly the same. Honeycomb core is the lightest among engineered wood and is durably efficient. The hexagonal configuration of the core makes the pane board more rigid. Given that it is not solid wood, compressed wood is not behind when it comes to aesthetics and the ability to withstand heavy items.

Safe for Indoors

Paying close attention to our sourcing process, we are proud to say that all our wood panels are of E1 Grade. Panels used in our pieces have passed the Lowest Emission Boards' strictest test, earning the designation of eco-friendly and safe for use inside our home. How can we be sure that what we put inside our home are safe for our health? Engineered wood products classified as E1 grade do not emit more than .1ppm of formaldehyde into the air. The percentage of formaldehyde emission that does not pose danger is 0.10 parts per million, and exposure to anything higher than that poses a risk to people.

Designed for Global Community, our Made in Italy Collection is made of ecologically sustainable panels.
